HOW WE GAIN STUDENT INTEREST IN ENGINEERING We utilize several strategies to recruit and maintain students in engineering. Over the School year, we participated in many activities that raised the community awareness of: “Who We Are” and “What We Do” Here is a snapshot!

PMECS - Partners for Minorities in Engineering & Computer Science

PMECS is a partnership between educators and businesses to provide gifted minority students academic enrichment in the career areas of engineering and computer science. Formed in 1977, PMECS has been conducting annual summer workshops for high school students since 1978.

4-H Garnet Squadron F. I. R. S. T. Robotics

4-H Garnet Squadron Robotics is a 4-H club for students in Lexington and Richland Counties interested in robotics, science, and engineering. Working with mentors from the University of South Carolina College of Engineering and Computing, we participate in the FIRST Robotics Competition (grades 9-12) and FIRST LEGO League (grades 4-8), and we stage demonstrations in the area to spread the word about how rewarding careers in science and engineering can be! Our club currently competes as FRC team 4901 (Garnet Squadron Robotics) and FLL teams 18486 (Garnet Squadron Alfa). No experience with robotics or 4-H is necessary to join the club; 4-H annual dues are just $10 and include access to a number of other great clubs and activities should you desire. We'd love to have you work with us!

WJ Keenan High School F. I. R. S. T. Robotics

Keenan High School meets Monday, Thursday at 6:00pm and Saturday at 10:00am.

Brookland Baptist Tutorial Program

Sessions are held Mondays and Thursdays from 6:00-7:30 PM that provide tutoring and after-school homework assistance to students (K-12) in all subjects (including Math, Science, and English) with the goal of improving academic performance and standardized test scores. Additionally, access to computer technology along with coaching in character and behavior development is provided.
